🌱 How to Germinate Tomato Seeds (or most vegetable seeds)
🔹 Materials Needed

Seeds (e.g., tomato seeds)

Water

Seed-starting mix or cocopeat (not regular garden soil)

Small containers or seed trays

Plastic wrap or humidity dome (optional)

Warm location (ideally 22–28°C)

Light source (after germination)

🪴 Step-by-Step Germination Process
1. Soak Seeds (Optional, but helpful)

Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 6–12 hours to soften the seed coat.

Helps speed up germination by activating enzymes.

2. Prepare the Growing Medium

Use a sterile, well-draining seed-starting mix (e.g., cocopeat + vermiculite).

Moisten it slightly – it should be damp, not soaking wet.

3. Plant the Seeds

Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in the medium.

Cover lightly with soil or mix.

4. Maintain Moisture & Humidity

Cover the tray or container with plastic wrap or a humidity dome.

Mist regularly to keep the medium moist (not soggy).

5. Provide Warmth

Ideal temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F)

Use a heating mat if your environment is cold.

6. Wait for Germination

Tomato seeds typically germinate in 5–10 days.

Once seedlings emerge, remove plastic cover and move to light.

7. Provide Light

Place under grow lights or near a sunny window (6–8 hours of light per day).

Without enough light, seedlings will become leggy and weak.

8. Water Carefully

Water from the bottom or gently from the top.

Avoid overwatering to prevent damping off (fungal disease).
